Okayama University, officially known as Okayama Daigaku in Japanese, was established in 1870 in Tsushima-Naka, Okayama, Japan. Started as the Medical raining Place under Han System in 1870, the training institute was founded by Okayama Han. In 1880, after the abolition of the Han System, the institute became the Okayama Prefectural Medical School. Soon after that, the school was merged into national school and the Third Higher Middle School in order to constitute the Medical Faculty but, the Medical Faculty went on to become an independent school in 1901 and changed its name to Okayama Medical Speciality School. As this happened, the school started gaining recognition at the large scale as it had seen the tremendous increase in the admissions and the public funding in the following years. It received the status of the college in 1922. As World War II started, the college got to shut down. Under the new Japanese Education System, after World War II, the college was merged with other national and public colleges like Okayama Medical College, the Sixth Higher School, Okayama Normal School, Okayama Youth's Normal School and Okayama (Prefectural) Agricultural College in Okayama Prefecture to establish Okayama University in 1949. Today, Okayama University has three campuses in Okayama in Japan. The Tsushima Campus, a main campus is an Administrative Center of OU which is located at multiple locations n Okayama city including 1-1, Tsushima-Naka, 1-chome, Kita-Ku, Okayama/1-1, Tsushima-Naka, 2-chome, Kita-Ku, Okayama/1-1, Tsushima-Naka, 3-chome, Kita-Ku, Okayama/1-62, Tsushima-Kuwanokicho, Kita-Ku, Okayama. The Shikata Campus, a home to many research labs and centers is situated at 5-1, Shikata-cho, 2-chome, Kita-Ku, Okayama. And finally, the newest campus, Misasa Campus is located at 827, Yamada, Misasa, Tottori Prefecture. It is the only campus which is situated outside the Okayama City. Started with 26 students, today, there are nearly 14,000 students enrolled in Okayama University with a presence of the academic staff of 1,400 members. The faculty student ratio of the university stands at 1:8. According to the QS and THE Ranking, Okayama University is ranked #761-770 and #801-810 in 2019.
