Niigata University is a research-integrated university established in 1949 with its major origins in the Niigata Medical College and Niigata Higher School. The university has 2 campuses with Ikarashi Campus offering all the faculties and graduate school (except Medicine and Dentistry) and the Asahimachi Campus in downtown that offers medical faculties and a small campus named Tokimate offering courses for lifelong learning for adults. There are a total of 9 faculties and 1 college offering undergraduate courses in Humanities, Education, Law, Economics, Science, Medicine, Dentistry, Engineering, Agriculture and Creative Studies and 5 graduate schools which include- Graduate School of Teacher Education, Graduate School of Modern Society and Culture, Graduate School of Science and Technology, Graduate School of Health Sciences, Graduate School of Medical and Dental Sciences. Several facilities and centres at Niigata University include library, Brain Research Institute, Niigata University Medical and Dental Hospital, Venture Business Laboratory, Sado Marine Biological Station, Institute of Nephrology, Field Center for Sustainable Agriculture and Forestry and Public Collaboration Research Center. With a campus size of 750,000 metre-square, the university faces spectacular island “Sado-ga-Shima, popular for its beaches, mountains and serene fishing villages and is around an hour from Niigata Airport. Niigata University focuses on the development of East Asia with the help of education and research.
