History, Affiliations and Rankings
Situated in Tianjin, Nankai University is a public research university founded in 1919 by educators Yan Xiu and Zhang Boling. Nankai University has created a pleasant and focused learning environment for its students due to its location at a quiet residential place. The institution focuses on high-quality education that is accessible to all. As per THE Rankings 2021, the university is ranked between 351 - 400 and #377 as per QS Rankings 2021.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
Nankai University encompasses three campuses, Balitai, Jinnan and TEDA. Balitai was the first campus to be entrenched in 1919 and is positioned at Balitai in the Nankai district of Tianjin. The campus organizes 10 colleges, namely the Business School, School of Economics, School of Literature, College of Chemistry, School of Mathematical Sciences, Institute of Physics, College of Foreign Languages, College of Life Sciences and Institute of Japan Studies. Jinnan Campus is located in the Binhai New Area and hosts 14 colleges whereas the TEDA Campus hosts the TEDA Institute of Biological Sciences and Biotechnology and the TEDA Institute of Applied Physics. The vibrant campuses are filled with all the necessary amenities, teaching spaces. Cafes, laboratories, learning centres and a library. It is focusing on building a sustainable campus by adopting the latest technological trends to control energy consumption and reduce carbon. Nankai University offers degrees in the subject areas of Literature, History, Philosophy, Economics, Management, Law, Science, Engineering, Agriculture, Medicine, Teaching, Art and many others. The courses are developed in such a manner that instils transferable skills which are useful for study or employment in the future. The key feature of Nankai University is that it regards its exceptional alumnus Zhou Enlai (Former Premier of the People's Republic of China), as a paradigm to educate talents, burgeon academia, strengthen the country, inherit civilization, and strive to build a world-class university. Shiing-Shen Chern (Chinese-American mathematician), Wu Ta-You (Physicist), Cao Yu (Chinese Playwright) are also the people associated with the university.
