Founded in the year 1919 as the University of Agriculture in Brno, it was renamed as Mendel University (MENDELU) in the year 2010 with the status of a public institution. It is the oldest independent specialized public university of Czech Republic. Mendel University has a large student population of 65,000 students with 8,300 on-campus students, comprising of 5,500 undergraduate and 2,200 postgraduate students. This also includes 1,600 international students of diverse nationalities from across the globe. The Mendel University in Brno sprawls across a 10,000-hectare campus, which includes one university institute, i.e. the Institute of Lifelong Learning and 5 academic faculties as enlisted below- Faculty of Forestry and Wood Technology, Faculty of Agronomy, Faculty of Business and Economics, Faculty of Regional Development and International Studies and Faculty of Horticulture. The university is located in Brno which was ranked among the Top 10 Student Cities by the QS Best Student Cities 2018.
