Lingnan University is a liberal arts university in Hong Kong with the longest history among all tertiary institutions. The university was initially founded in Guangzhou, China in 1888 as a Christian College and was later re-established in Hong Kong in 1967 as the Lingnan College. In 1999, the Lingnan College attained the status of a university and was renamed as Lingnan University. The university's liberal arts education cultivates skills, competences and sensibilities to its students and aims at instilling a sense of civic duty in them. It engages in community service and emphasizes diversity in teaching as well as learning. "Education for service is its guiding motto".
