Gifu University, also known as Gidai is a medium-sized national university established in 1949 which remains strongly rooted in its local community. Its Yanagido campus offers undergraduate degree course under 6 faculties: Education, Agriculture, Medicine, Engineering, Applied Biological Sciences and Regional Studies. Several graduate degree programs are provided by the university under 6 graduate schools: United Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences, Graduate School of Medicine, United Graduate School of Agricultural Science, Graduate School of Applied Biological Sciences,Graduate School of Engineering, Joint Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences and United Graduate School of Drug Discovery and Medical Information Sciences. The university also has the provision of a summer school that offers Japanese culture and language courses for a duration of four weeks. This course is coupled with homestays and field trips. Other than this Gifu University also has an active student exchange programme wherein it has partnered with 45 universities from over 16 countries. Medical school and hospital at Gifu University features new medical treatments using fibre-optic networks and the Advanced Critical Care Centre with specialists from all clinical departments.
