History, Affiliations and Rankings
Georgian College was established in 1967 and is the first and only educational institution in Canada to be recognized by Ashoka U as a changemaker college for its role as a pioneer in social innovation and change-making in higher education. It is an Ontario, Canada-based College of Applied Arts and Technology. The Canadian Association for Co-operative Education has granted Georgian College accreditation for 12 of its co-operative education programs (CAFCE). Georgian College is the first college in Ontario to get this honour. CAFCE certification is Canada's highest level for co-operative education programs, and it signifies that Georgian has satisfied a variety of quality requirements in its curriculum. Co-op programs in Georgian's Engineering and Environmental Technology department received accreditation from the organization. These include Architectural Technician, Architectural Technology, Civil Engineering Technician – Construction, Civil Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technician, Electrical Engineering Technology, Environmental Technician, Environmental Technology, Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Technician, Mechanical Technician – Precision Skills, Marine Engineering Technician and Marine Technology – Navigation.
Infrastructure, Campus and Courses
Georgian College offers a wide range of courses and credentials, ranging from apprenticeships through college diplomas, bachelor's degrees, and graduate certifications. Georgian College has been providing high-quality practical education for almost 50 years, and it now has about 13,000 full-time students, including a vibrant community of 4,500 foreign students from over 85 countries. The institutions' seven Ontario locations provide a diverse range of courses. Barrie, a contemporary and expanding city of roughly 150,000 people set between the shores of Lake Simcoe and Georgian Bay, is home to the biggest campus. All of the campuses are conveniently located near Toronto, the state capital.
Accomplishments and Alumni
Georgian has one of the greatest graduate employment rates among Ontario colleges, with 85.8% of graduates finding jobs within six months of graduation, much exceeding the provincial norm — which the institution has consistently outperformed for more than 20 years. For the second year in a row, employers expressed complete satisfaction with the college's preparation of Georgia graduates. Despite the obstacles of a worldwide pandemic and its economic consequences, university graduates' happiness with their Georgian experience increased by over 6% to 82.5%, above the provincial average. Georgian College has also been named the best co-op college in Ontario. The college has a total of 90,000 alumni.
Student Diversity and Placements
Around 13,000 full-time students attend Georgian College, including 4,500 international students from 85 countries who speak more than 110 languages (as of March 2020 audit). Having said that, 85% are aged 25 or younger, with 42% being aged 19 or younger. In addition, 50% of the population is female and 50% is male. Not only that, but 38% of the student body is fresh out of high school. In a nutshell, Georgian is a life-changing experience that links students to the skills, mentality, and confidence they need to achieve.
