The Ecole Polytechnique federale de Lausanne or EPFL is primarily a research university and institute that is situated in the city of Lausanne in Switzerland. The main three missions that this university lives by, is to transfer research, education, and technology at the highest level. The main campus is located in the French-speaking part of the country and has a sister campus institution in the German-speaking part of Switzerland. The university separated from the University of Lausanne in 1974 to form the present day EPFL, which set up its main campus in Lausanne. It became a federal institute after the split. It constructed additional campuses in Geneva, Fribourg, Valais, and Neuchatel from 1974 to 2010. The most recent expansion is the construction of a SwissTech Convention Center that was inaugurated in 2014. These campuses have more than 11,000 students hailing from all across the world who are enrolled in 13 different Bachelor Programs, 25+ Master Programs or 21 Doctoral Programs.
