Eastern Kentucky University, a public university, was established in 1874 in Richmond, Kentucky. Started as a Central University on the today’s site of Eastern Kentucky University in 1874, but soon, due to the financial problems, Central University was shut down in 1901. In 1906, the legislative Assembly of the state of Kentucky passed a law to establish the Eastern Kentucky State Normal School No. 1. In 1922, the school was granted a right to offer a four-year program and changed its name to the Eastern Kentucky State Normal School and Teachers College, awarding its first degrees under that name in 1925. . In 1930, the school changed its name again to the Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College. And later in 1948, the legislative Assembly of the state of Kentucky decided to remove the word ‘Teachers’ by granting it the right to award nonprofessional degrees. Finally, after many backside lobbying efforts, the college was given the university status in 2006 and it came to be known as Eastern Kentucky University. Today, Eastern Kentucky University has 8 colleges including College of Business and Technology, College of Education, College of Health Sciences, College of Justice and Safety, College of Letters, Arts and Social Sciences, College of Science, Graduate School and Honors College. Eastern Kentucky University offers wide range of programs at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral level programs in Accounting, Business Administration and Management, Health Science, Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, IT, Computer Science, Judiciary, Law, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and many more. It also offers online programs at undergraduate and post graduate levels in 40 disciplines. Today, Eastern Kentucky University has many campuses in the state of Kentucky, USA. The main campus is situated in the city of Richmond which provides state of the art facility when it comes to the online programs administration blocks. Eastern Kentucky University has also maintained to make its presence in in Corbin, Hazard, Lancaster, and Manchester. There are more than 15,800 students enrolled in EU with the presence of the academic staff of 800 members. The student faculty ratio of the university stands at 16:1. According to the US World News and Reports and Forbes Ranking, Eastern Kentucky University is ranked #76 in regional south universities and #248 in US College Ranking in 2019.
