Carnegie Mellon University was established in the year 1900 as a private and international research education institution in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Andrew Carnegie was the person who strived hard to build this university. Back then, in 1900, the university was known as Carnegie Technical School. At the beginning of the 19th century, the university was renamed to Carnegie Institue of Technology. At that time, it became able to grant 4-year degrees in its own name. Later on, the university integrated with an Industrial Research Institution of Mellon and the Carnegie Mellon was established. At present, the university consists of 7 colleges and independent schools: Dietrich College of Social Science & Humanities, Mellon College of Science, School of Computer Science, College of Information Systems & Public Policy, College of Engineering, Tepper School of Business, and College of Fine Arts. Apart from these schools & Colleges, the university also houses 5 libraries: Mellon Institute Library, Roger Sorrells Science & Engineering Library, Hunt Library, Posner Center, and Qatar Library. The staff and alumni of the university have together established great companies like Adobe in the year 1982. Currently, the university holds around 20 Nobel Prize Laureates, 12 Turing Awards, 47 Tony Awards Laureates, 124 Emmy Award Winners, and 23 Members of the American Academy of Sciences & Arts, and 79 Members of the National Academics. In addition to this, this university is a hub to 225 art galleries and student organizations. Such student organizations provide support and opportunities to students in the areas of academic, cultural, religious, political, social, media, sport, political, and academics.
