California Lutheran University is a private liberal arts university located in Thousand Oaks, California. The University was established in 1959 and has an affiliation with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, but is not related to any religious group. It was started in 1960 as California Lutheran College and was the first art institution in and the first four-year private institute in Ventura County. Its name was changed to California Lutheran University in 1986. California Lutheran ranks #368 in the US College Rankings 2022 by the Times Higher Education and #8 in Regional Universities West by the US News & World Report.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

California Lutheran University has one main campus in Thousand Oaks, California, and four satellite centres in Oxnard, Santa Maria, Westlake Village, and Woodland Hills. The main campus is between Santa Barbara and Los Angeles. The main campus has a size of 225 acres with residence halls, academic buildings, an eatery, a gym, and sports equipment. Students at Cal Lutheran have numerous opportunities to chill when they're not studying. The Outdoor Recreation program provides students with experiences like hiking, snowboarding, rock climbing, and other outdoor activities. The city of Thousand Oaks is approximately 40 miles from Downtown Los Angeles and is acknowledged as one of the most desired places to stay and work because of its peaceful and culturally rich setting. California Lutheran University offers a wide range of degrees from UG and PG to professional levels. Students can select from 40 majors and 42 minors such as Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Criminology and Criminal Justice, and Interdisciplinary Educational Studies.

Institute has more than 4,000 student enrolments out of which about 2,800 are undergraduates and about 1,400 are postgraduates with more than 435 faculty members on its premises. It publishes the Q.S. World University Rankings every year. The Q.S. rating, which is considered one of the three most widely read university rankings globally, is approved by the International Ranking Expert Group (IREG). California Lutheran University is test-optional for all applicants. For international students, an additional interview (virtual) may be required if you choose to apply without the SAT/ACT. Applicants will be considered for scholarships if they apply test-optional or with SAT/ACT.

Eligible International students will be automatically considered for academic scholarships upon admission, regardless of financial need. Academic scholarships are based on test scores and GPA (for freshmen) and GPA of transferable units for transfer applicants.

When school is in session, your US student visa permits you to work up to 20 hours per week on campus and full-time during school breaks (up to 40 hours per week).
The employer must ensure that the employment should not displace (take a job away from) a US resident.
F1 students are permitted to work in the United States, but only under specified circumstances and in compliance with the US Citizenship and Immigration Service's complicated standards and restrictions (USCIS).
Many US colleges need approval from the International Student Office before taking any on-campus job, and such employment may not be permitted during a student's first semester or year.

Types of Part-Time Jobs in the USA

There are two ways international students can get part-time jobs in the USA. They can either look for on-campus jobs or off-campus jobs.

On-Campus Jobs: On-campus employment is defined as work that takes place on campus or at a school-affiliated off-campus site. Some examples are working in a campus bookshop, cafeteria, or other facilities where students may assist. To be considered for this position, you must apply at least 30 days prior to the start of school. Speak with your DSO about applying. If you're authorised, your DSO will provide you with a letter of approval, which you'll need to apply for a Social Security number (SSN).

Off-Campus Jobs: Off-campus jobs are relatively easy but not always in proximity. F1 students can gain authorization to work under certain training programmes. This form of part-time work is not difficult to acquire. However, it is only available to F1 students who have completed at least one full academic year of their programme of study and who have an economic hardship that meets the Department of Homeland Security's urgent conditions. Optional Practical Training (OPT) and Curricular Practical Training (CPT) are two programmes designed specifically for students who want to obtain experience in their field of study.
