California College of the Arts (CCA) is an art, design, construction, and writing University with two colleges in California- in San Francisco and Oakland. The University was founded in 1907. It enrolls approximately 1,500 UG students and 1,000 PG students. CCA was established in 1907 by Frederick Meyer in Berkeley as the University of the California Guild of Arts and Crafts through the height of the Arts and Crafts mission. The Arts and Crafts movement began in Europe during the late 19th century as an answer to the technical aesthetics of the motor age. Followers of the movement promoted a multicultural approach to art, design, and craft. Today, Frederick Meyer’s "practical art school" is a universally known and admired institution, drawing students from around the globe. The University's Oakland school location was acquired in 1922 when Meyer purchased the four-acre James Treadwell property at Broadway and College Avenue. Two of its homes are on the National Register of Famous Places. The Oakland university still houses the more conventional, craft-based studios like the art glass, jewelry metal arts, printmaking, painting, sculpture, and ceramics programs. CCA proffers 22 undergraduate and 13 graduate programs. CCA bestows the bachelor of fine arts, bachelor of arts, bachelor of architecture, master of fine arts, master of arts, master of architecture, master of advanced architectural design, master of design and master of business administration qualifications. In 2018, U.S. News and World Report placed the California College of the Arts as becoming the 15th best Fine Arts degree in the United States.PayScale lists CCA as the 1 art institution in the United States for return on investment and 3 for average alumni pay.
