The Malta College of Arts, Science and Technology (MCAST Malta) was established in 2001 in Paola, Malta. When the government saw the growing number of young students who are unable to complete their education because of lack of skills and proper institution to harness the particular talents, the college was founded with an aim to provide the top class education in vocational education to all students and prepare them for the higher education in relevant streams. The MCAST Malta was established not just as vocational training institute but also as a step towards attaining higher education I top universities by designing the curriculum, faculties and administrative structure which help students to overcome the challenges they are facing.
The MCAST Malta is comprised of six institutes including Institute of Applied Sciences, Institute for the Creative Arts, Institute of Business Management and Commerce, Institute of Community Services, Institute of Information and Communication Technology, Institute of Engineering and Transport and one Gozo Campus and Pathway to Independent Living. The MCAST Malta provides around 180 full time programs and 300 part time programs at undergraduate, certificate, postgraduate levels. Not just the framework in designed such a way that it provides the programs from level 1 to level 6. Level and Level 2 are foundation programs which have offered to students who may have not been able to continue their formal education qualification. Level 3 and Level 4 programs are designed to provide training to those who may want to continue their studies at higher degree level. And finally, at Level 5 and Level 6, students will be fully prepared for achieving their first degree in masters and post masters or doctoral studies.
The MCAST Malta is planning to open three colleges under one umbrella, foundation college, technical college and university college. The Foundation College will focus on offering the programs at MQF/EQF Levels 1, 2 and 3 by addressing their specific needs and preparing them for further education at the Technical College. The technical college will offer level 4 and level 5 programs of study. The programs will be offered by collaborating with different industries in the region and prepare them for university college. University College will offer the wide range of higher education and vocational degrees by closely working with the industries and government, not just to prepare them higher secondary education, but also to give them the applied knowledge so that they can start employment and face real world challenge. In addition to these institutes, the MCAST Malta also has a number of research centers which gives complete freedom to students to conduct their own research based on the interests under guidance.
