What Was the Muslim League and Why Was It Founded?

The founder of Muslim League was Khwaja Salimullah. The All India Muslim League was a political organisation established in 1906 to represent the political interests of muslims in British India. Moreover,  muslims wanted to have a say in the decisions regarding India’s future. Thus, at the annual meeting of the All India Muhammadan Educational Conference in Dhaka, the league was founded. The league want to protect both political rights and civil rights of people and promote their loyalty to the British government.

Who Was the Founder of Muslim League? Khwaja Salimullah (1871–1915) was the Nawab (ruler) of Dhaka (present day Bangladesh). He was a respected muslim leader who understood that the community needed their platform. Therefore, in December 1906, at the meeting that was held at its mansion in Ahsan Manzil (Dhaka), he brought together muslims. He brought 35 Muslim leaders from all over India.

This gathering was the beginning of the All-India Muslim League. This made Khwaja Salimullah its first patron and funder. The initial goal of the league was to protect the rights of muslims, support education, and secure a fair political representation.

Why Isn’t Mohammad Ali Jinnah (Option A) the Founder?

The founder of Muslim League was Khwaja Salimullah. Mohammad Ali Jinnah was not the founder of the muslim League. He only joined the Muslim League in 1913. This was 7 years after the time when the Muslim League was established. Thereafter, he became one of the most influential leaders of the League and asked for a separate muslim country in 1947. Thus, Jinnah became the father of Pakistan.
