The United States India Embassy has released a statement for the first time student visa applicants. According to this, thousands of visa appointment dates are available on the calendar. Consequently students seeking U.S visa can get visa appointment slots.
Moreover, visa appointment slots would be opened for previously refused applicants. Previously refused applicants can get another slot. Therefore, interested students need to book an appointment as soon as possible.
Steps to Reduce Delays for First Time Applicants
The United States has taken steps to cut the visa processing in India. New initiatives have taken special interviews for the first-time applicants. The authorities have made efforts to increase the strength of the consular staff.
Such steps have been taken as a part of the multi pronged approach to cut the visa backlog. Consequently, on January 21st the US mission in India launched the first series of ‘special saturday interview Days’. The step was taken in the US embassy in Delhi, and the consulates in Chennai, Kolkata, and Mumbai.
As per the US Embassy “ It is a part of a larger effort to reduce wait times for 1st time visa applicants”.
Visa Appointment for Previously Refused Students
The US Embassy India will soon open the student visa appointment calendar for previously refused students, providing them with a chance to obtain another appointment. However, they have not mentioned a specific date for the same.
According to Brendan Mullarkey, Minister Counselor for Consular Affairs, U.S Embassy New Delhi, the embassy has issued 1.25 lakh student visas in 2022. Moreover, the U.S expects the demand to be high in 2023.
As a result, U,S has opened tens of thousands of appointment slots for June and July. We have increased the appointment slots to accommodate hopeful students.
The US visa fee has been hiked from $160 – $185/INR 15,300. The visa fee hike became effective as of 30th May, 2023.
