The Mercer University Office of Global Engagement has announced scholarships to 21 international students as a part of its Global Leader Scholarships. A total scholarship amount of $65,590 (INR 54,11,542) was awarded to assist students to participate in the study abroad programs. Previously, the program granted a grant of $8000 (INR 6,60,044) per student for a duration of 8 weeks or longer. Later on, the scholarships were extended to include a grant of $5000 dollars for programs lasting between 3 and 8 weeks. Furthermore, students pursuing programs shorter than 3 weeks were also granted $3000 (INR 2,47,516).
12 students out of the 21 students selected for the scholarship program will be participating in affiliate or exchange programs. On the other hand, nine students would be participating in the faculty led courses. Do note that the next cycle of the scholarship program will start in mid September. Therefore, the applications would close in mid-October.
Global Leader Scholarship: Eligibility Criteria
The Global Leader Scholarship is a merit based scholarship managed by the Office of Global Education. The scholarship awards students on a competitive basis. To be eligible for the scholarship, a student must enroll in a Mercer University Study Abroad Program. It can be an exchange program, faculty-led programs, or an affiliate program.
Additionally, the student must submit a GLS application through the official website of the university. The Financial Planning Office would award the scholarship based on the expense of the program. The office would disburse the amount to the student at the start of the program.
Global Leader Scholarship Beneficiaries
Mercer University Scholarships have selected 21 students this year. Some of the beneficiaries include:
- Zack Al Husein, (management major) has received scholarship to participate in an exchange fall program in England
- Jaiden Aliff ( Spanish and entrepreneurship double major) has received the scholarship to participate in a faculty led summer program in Spain.
- Ma Kenna Lawler (Global Health Studies and Global Development Studies Double Major) has received a scholarship to participate in an affiliate summer program in Japan.
According to Johna Wright, the global education programs coordinator the team could not be more proud of these exceptional students. The selected students, although studying at foreign institutions will continue the legacy at Mercer to change the world.
