Better job opportunities await doctoral graduates inside the country. This is because Tokyo Tech’s Innovator and Inventor Development Platform (IIDP) collaborated with Student Support Center’s Student Success Support Section. The agenda is to aspire more doctoral graduates to enter the Japanese job market with assistance from job hunting and mock interview event. This is primarily due to the statistics submitted by Japan Student Services Organization. Furthermore, these statistics stand the same for Tokyo Tech’s doctoral graduates.
Japan’s Job Market Requirements
Global Innovation Index (GII) ranks Japan 13th out of 132 economies. Here, it needs to be noted that there are around 80 different factors based on which the ranking presumes action. Thus, the market requirements to get a job for Japanese doctoral students are very different and unique. That is the primary reason why the Japanese market requires a very different set of skills.

Therefore, there are two areas where these doctoral students are lacking.
- Language barrier due to non-Japanese tongue.
- Job search approaches of these international doctoral students.
Hence, these are the two main reasons that Japan can recruit the best minds into the industry. Additionally, this earned 12th rank among 48 high-income group economies.
Takeaways from the Success Support Events
The main objective of these events was to create awareness of the R&D market in Japan. Furthermore, it was a huge requirement that now has the capability to disrupt the global research space.
Thus, Japan Association for Promotion of Internationalization (JAPI) members and a special professional took to English to create an awareness of the language barrier and the Japanese communication culture.
More than 100 international doctoral graduates in Japan attended the event and questioned the JAPI panellists and career counsellors of Tokyo Tech. The eagerness to be a part of the Japanese culture was not at all dim. Various queries came up that fulfilled the agenda and objectives of the event.
Thus, international students were heavily supported by tech giants. Additionally, the discussions cleared future doubts of some students as the interviews were transparently explained to the other interviewees. The exchange allowed great knowledge transfer that is going to diminish the difficult employment state of doctoral students from abroad in Japan.
