The Pearson Test of English Academic (PTE-A) is an English Language test which is taken up by candidates who are willing to join colleges abroad. The reading section of the PTE test generally takes 30-40 minutes and will test your reading skills. The syllabus for the PTE reading sections consists of mainly four types of questions. The five types of questions are as follows:

Reading Section Preparation Tips and Tricks
The PTE-A test is mostly taken up by candidates who wish to study abroad. Aspirants who wish to work abroad can also give the test. Multiple-choice, Choose Single Answer
- The candidates are suggested to focus on the repeating words in the questions such as often, always, never, and all, and then they can eliminate those words from the options to get the correct answer.
- As there is no negative marking for this section the candidates are advised to attempt all questions.
- At least 60% of the answers can be found in the first or the last lines of the passage.
Multiple-choice, Choose Multiple Answers
- As this part of the section carries negative markings, the candidates are suggested to choose their answers wisely.
Fill in the Blanks
- Attempt all the questions from this part as there is no negative marking.
- Often, the missing words will have a synonym in the passage provided.
Re-order Paragraphs
- Look for independent sentences. Sentences that do not depend on any other sentence will be the leading sentence.
- Look for connecting words in the passage such as “because” and “however”. This will help the candidates to reorder the paragraph.

General Tips for the PTE-A Exam
- Focus on your grammar and make a habit to read the newspaper and good english novels.
- The candidates can also listen to native English speakers’ audio such as TED talks to get a better understanding of English fluency.
- The candidates are suggested to only use relevant PTE study materials to prepare for the examination.
- Make a study plan and work according to it. Work hard on your weaker sections first.
