International Excellence Scholarship

The JCU’s International Excellence scholarship is available to undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students. This is a tuition fee scholarship that is automatically accessed. That is, you do not need to apply for it. However, to maintain this scholarship you will have to maintain your academic scores. Moreover, the number of James Cook University scholarships varies/

Eligibility 

The eligibility requirements for the International Excellence Scholarship are as follows:

  • You must be an international student starting your studies at JCU for the 1st time
  • Additionally, you must be enrolled full-time in a postgraduate or undergraduate program 
  • Full-time undergraduate students must demonstrate an ATAR of 65 (or equivalent).
  • On the other hand, a postgraduate student must have secured 65% or more. The passing marks in this case must be 50%.
  • Those enrolled in an End-on Honours degree, Diploma, Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Dental Surgery, Bachelor of Surgery, Graduate Diplomas, Graduate Certificates, non-award programs, or an online program at the university are not eligible for the scholarship.

Benefit 

The benefit of the JCU International Excellence Scholarship is a 25% tuition fee discount for the entire course duration. However, you are required to maintain a strong GPA every semester.

Tom and Dorothy Cook Scholarships in Public Health and Tropical Medicine

The James Cook University scholarships include the Tom and Dorothy Cook Scholarships in Public Health and Tropical Medicine. This scholarship is for Higher Degree by Research (HDR) students) enrolling in a Doctor of Philosophy/Master of Philosophy program. That is, in the field of laboratory and clinical investigation of Tropical Northern Australia’s population, or public health.

Eligibility 

The eligibility requirements for the Tom and Dorothy Cook scholarships in Public Health and Tropical Medicine are as follows:

  • You must be commencing your studies or in the process of applying for an eligible program.
  • That is, MPhil/PhD at JCU
  • Additionally, you must have a research project that is either related to laboratory and clinical investigations (population health), or public health, 
  • Moreover, your research project must emphasise central Queensland and the Mackay region. 
  • You also need to meet the admission requirements for the  MPhil or PhD degree.
  • You must have a primary/secondary supervisor in Public Health at JCU 
  • Both full-time and part-time students can apply

Benefit 

The Benefit of the Tom and Dorothy Cook scholarships in Public Health and Tropical Medicine is an amount of $33,500 per year. Additionally, you will be provided with  $5,000 to cover your project expenses.

Do International Students Get Merit Stipends at James Cook University?

Not Anymore. The International Merit Stipend is a scholarship that was offered to upcoming international students at the university. The scholarship was available to both undergraduate and postgraduate coursework students. The benefit was a living allowance of A$400 in fortnightly payments. No application was necessary.

However, this scholarship has been discontinued. This means that the university will no longer consider your application for the International Merit Stipend. However, your admissions application will automatically be considered for another scholarship. That is, the International Excellence Scholarship.
