Singular Nouns Definition

The definition of a singular noun is similar to that of a noun. As per the Cambridge Dictionary, a singular noun is a noun that refers to a place, thing, person, event, etc. It is used in contrast with the plural noun which addresses more than one person, thing or event. 

A common example of a singular noun can be ‘a cat’ which refers to only one cat. Whereas in plural noun, it will refer to ‘cats’ referring to more than one cat.

Here is a proper difference between both – singular and plural nouns which will help you understand them.

	Singular Nouns	Plural Nouns
Meaning	A singular noun refers to only one person, animal, place, thing etc.	Plural nouns are when more than one person, place, thing etc are there.
Usage	Singular Nouns use singular verbs.	Plural nouns use plural determiners (such as some, a few, many etc).
Examples	The cat is walking on the road. Ram lost the game.	The trees are shaking. He is currently reading three books at a time.
