History of the Official Languages Listed in the Constitution
Originally, there were only 14 Languages recognised by the Indian Constitution in 1950.
- In 1967, Sindhi was added to the list and then the total number was 15.
- Additionally, in 1992, Nepali, Konkani and Manipuri added up to a total of 18 official languages.
- Lastly, in the year 2004, Dogri, Bodi, Santhali and Maithili were added to make the current number of 22 Languages Listed in the Constitution.
