Hi, I have a 4 years work integrated bachelors degree in Bsc CS from Bits Pilani and also 4 years of work experience in IT. Do I have any chance to do Masters in CS in foreign. Could some one suggest what are the possible ways I can do masters? Is there any chance that I get admitted. #IndianStudentsAbroad #MastersInCS #StudyAbroadOpportunities #BachelorsDegreeInCS #ForeignEducationOptions

Hello Vinay,

Based on what you have told us, you have an excellent profile to pursue a master's degree abroad. Since you are going ahead with the same field in which you have your graduation and work experience, you can also make a strong statement of purpose.

As for gap years, countries considered best for computer-related fields like USA, Canada, Australia, UK etc acknowledge a gap of 4 years provided that you have a good reason to justify this gap. So, 4 years of work experience can be transformed into an asset from what now you see as gap years.

First, let’s get an idea about what you consider a justification for a gap year. Having work experience is where you spent your gap year, what justifies it is the reason why you chose to gain work experience over completing a master's and why you want to continue with your postgraduation now.

For this, you can use good technical reasons, for instance;

  • You wanted to explore the field of computer science to figure out your domain within the subject. To make an informed choice about the specialisations. Now that you understand your interests better, you wish to invest in your skills to upgrade your profile and a country like (the one you choose) adds to that experience.
  • You started working to learn in the field, you gained considerable practical knowledge within these four years and now want to upgrade your studies to vouch for better positions and job roles in the field. Moreover, the course curriculum and the opportunities provided by the university are just the best match for your expectations.

With such reasons, you can establish your interest and curiosity in the subject and dedication towards a study abroad dream. Universities will also understand that you are making an informed choice.

Moreover, make sure to craft a technical resume, using the right keywords to express your strengths and skills. Make it concise and clear and make sure your application has no loopholes. With this, you can draw offer letters from your targetted universities.

We hope we have answered your question to the fullest. For more queries, feel free to revert back. However, if you feel like you need personalised one-on-one guidance with an expert, you can call 1800-572-000 for a free counselling session.
