Try to avoid repeating the words used in the examiner’s question.
Answer in as much detail as you can
Use imagination

♦️to be laid off (v) - to lose your job because the company wants to reduce the number of employees
♦️to downsize (v) - to reduce the number of employees in a company in order to lower costs

• If you didn’t hear the question properly in the IELTS Speaking test or you aren’t sure what the examiner means, it is okay to ask for clarification.
• It’s advised to suggest what the examiner is trying to ask you by asking - ‘Do you mean …?’
• You don’t lose marks if you need to check the question.
• Asking for clarification can help to make sure you are not off topic with your answer.
