West Virginia State University is a part of HBCU (Historically Black Colleges and Universities) established in 1891 and also known as West Virginia State. Its campus is located in the beautiful Appalachian foothills and is a part of West Virginia’s largest metropolitan area. With the vision to become the most student-centred, teaching and research university, WVSU aims to contribute to the educational and economic development in the State of West Virginia and across the world. The university is divided into 3 programmatic divisions:
The Center for the Advancement of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (CASTEM)
WVSU Agricultural and Environmental Research Station
WVSU Extension Service
The comprehensive 100-acre campus offers a variety of undergraduate courses in Business, Liberal Arts, Professional Studies, Science and Social Science. Further, a wide range of graduate degree programs and postgraduate certificate courses are offered in Biotechnology, Computer Science, Criminal Justice Administration, Media Studies and Public Administration.
With 25 major buildings and 16 faculty homes, the university maintains several residence halls to provide on-campus accommodation to local and foreign students. The campus has a lot of green space and a great quad area for studying outside in the fresh air. The university also hosts a range of sports championships on local and international level including football, basketball, baseball, volleyball, softball, soccer, tennis and golf.
