History, Affiliations, and Rankings
Founded in 1851, the University of the Pacific was the first accredited college in California. It was founded by the Methodist clergy and is still the only Methodist University in California. The university was originally located in Santa Clara and later moved to San Jose and Stockton in 1924, making it the first private four-year university in the Central Valley. The University is known for offering personalized learning that integrates Liberal Arts education with professional education for preparing students for becoming future leaders. According to US News and World Report National Universities Rankings 2022, the University of the Pacific ranks at #136. Also in 2021, US News ranked the University 53rd among the “Best Value Schools”. 93rd in the "Best Veterans College" and 36th in the "Best Performers of Social Mobility". The QS World University Rankings place Pacific in bracket #801-1000.
Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses
The three campuses in Sacramento, San Francisco, and Stockton are located in Northern California, connecting students with some of the country’s most diverse, dynamic, and fastest-growing industrial and innovation centers. The Stockton campus is a 175-acre residential campus of the University of the Pacific, offering undergraduate, graduate and professional courses to prepare students for a prosperous future in Business, Education, Engineering, and Healthcare. Pacific’s Sacramento campus is an interdisciplinary center offering exciting courses at the intersection of Law, Politics, Education, and Health. The McGeorge School of Law of the University of the Pacific is a private law school accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA), located near Oak Park in Sacramento, California. It is part of the University of the Pacific and is located on the campus of Sacramento. Pacific’s San Francisco campus brings innovative Data Science, Audiology, Dentistry, and Music Therapy programs to the centre of the bustling SoMa district. University of the Pacific scholarships is awarded based on your high school transcript, the rigor of the high-school curriculum, and your extracurricular and leadership activities.
Accomplishments and Alumni
More than 70,000 former students make up the University of the Pacific's alumni group. The Pacific Alumni Association, which has eight staff members and a 30-member alumni board of directors, represents them. Every year, the institution honors its outstanding alumni with the Distinguished Alumni Awards, which have a legacy dating back more than 140 years. University of the Pacific alumni is well-known for their accomplishments in sports, academics, business, government and politics, science and engineering, entertainment, and other disciplines. Arif Alvi (13th President of Pakistan), Dave Brubeck (Jazz Pianist and Composer), Jose Hernandez (Former NASA Astronaut), Nemir Kirdar (Founder of Investcorp) are just a few of the notable people linked with the university.
Student Diversity and Visiting Companies
International students from all around the world are welcome at the University of the Pacific. It includes a unique unit dedicated to assisting and guiding international students. The Stockton Campus had 4,692 students as of 2020. (3,505 undergraduates, 577 graduates, 610 first-professional students). The Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry at the University of the Pacific in San Francisco had 698 students (19 bachelor's, 186 graduates, and 493 first-year professional students) while the McGeorge School of Law in Sacramento had 873 (331 postgraduate, 542 first-professional students). Some of the top companies that have hired Pacific University alumni include Ansal API, ICICI Securities, Vodafone, Aditya Birla Group, HDFC Standard Life, Cobra Bear, SBI Life Insurance, Cadbury India Pvt.
