Founded in the year 1968, the University of Salerno is a public university which has two campuses. While the main campus is situated in Fisciano, The School of Medicine is located in Baronissi. The University boasts of a rich past and still maintains a traditional, rural, campus life. It is home to more than 10 faculties with multiple departments. The funding to the University of Salerno is granted by the Government of Italy. There are close to around 34,000 students enrolled in various UG, PG and doctorate programs across various disciplines. Started in the 8th century, the university houses one of the most famous medical schools of Italy which became more popular between 10th-13th centuries. The most sought after courses in the university are those of Economics and Medicine. The University also has a well-equipped library which provides students with thousands of printed and electronic versions of books and journals. The city of Salerno is close to Amalfi coast, Cilento National Park and the archaeological sites of Paestum and Pompei. The Medical School of the university was not a renowned school but over the years, it has garnered immense popularity in Italy.
