History, Affiliations and Rankings

The University of New Brunswick, founded in 1785, is one of Canada's most prestigious universities. For more than 230 years, the institution has been a hub for world-leading research and innovation in Canada, thanks to state-of-the-art facilities. 

UNB received a 5-star rating from the QS World University Rankings in 2021, making it the second university in Atlantic Canada to do so. UNB was placed 9th out of 15 universities in Maclean's "comprehensive university" rankings for 2022. QS World placed university with rankings #651-700 and Times World with rankings 601-800.

Startup Canada named UNB the most entrepreneurial university in Canada in 2014. As of 2015, the institution had also assisted in the formation of 23 new startup enterprises. Maclean's magazine placed UNB's law school second in the country for elite firm recruiting in 2012. The legal school is ranked among the top five in Canada, according to Canadian Lawyer Magazine. UNB was named among the top three comprehensive research institutions in Canada for the largest percentage growth of research income over a five-year period by the National Post and the Ottawa Citizen in 2008.

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

In Fredericton and Saint John, the University of New Brunswick has two major campuses. It also has two health sciences satellite campuses in Bathurst and Moncton. 

Across disciplines, the institution provides undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctorate studies. The faculties of Arts, Faculty of Science, Business, Computer Science, Engineering, Law, Nursing & Health Sciences, Faculty of Leadership Studies, and Faculty of Forestry & Environmental Management are among the university's major faculties. 

Accomplishments and Alumni 

With its Bachelor of Business Administration in Electronic Commerce, UNB Saint John was the first institution in Canada to offer an e-business curriculum. Since then, Canadian Business Magazine has placed the university top in e-business.

There are 90,000 live graduates of the University of New Brunswick, including approximately 39,000 in the city. Doug Young is a lawyer and politician who served as the Minister of National Defence before becoming the Leader of the New Brunswick Liberal Party, Shawn Murphy is a politician and a lawyer and Anne Murray is a Grammy-nominated vocalist are some of the known notable alumni of the university.

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

Over 10,000 students from more than 100 countries make up UNB's student body. There are exchanges offered with 89 university partners in more than 35 countries throughout the world. UNB facilities, fitness programmes, and outdoor activities such as snowshoeing and kayaking are available to students on both campuses. The University of New Brunswick provides chances for study and innovation in a range of sectors. International students get appropriate financial support from the institution, external agencies, and alumni while completing their studies.
