History, Affiliations and Rankings
The University of Exeter, founded in 1955, is a public university dedicated to research and is a member of the Russel Group of research-intensive UK Universities. Its predecessors include St Luke’s College, Exeter School of Science, and Exeter School of Art. It was one of the municipal institutions that received university status prior to World War II in the 1950s as a result of the second civic universities movement. The university is a member of the Universities UK, the European University Association, Association of Commonwealth Universities and Association of MBAs. The University of Exeter ranks at #143 in THE World University Rankings 2022. The university also ranks at #149 in QS World University Rankings 2022.

The university belongs to the Russell Group, which comprises the leading research-intensive universities of the United Kingdom and consists of three campuses. The university organizes its educational and administrative departments into six schools of higher education.
