History, Affiliations, and Rankings

The University of Bradford was formerly known as the Mechanics Institute, established in 1832, founded as there was a need in the city for employees with skills-driven jobs. In 1882, the College was modified to the Bradford Technical College. In 1957, the Bradford Institute of Technology's name was again changed to College of Advanced Technology in order to provide higher education programs. In 1966, The Charter of Incorporation was given in order to establish the University of Bradford. The then Prime Minister Harold Wilson was the university's first Chancellor. The University of Bradford is among the top universities worldwide with triple accreditations - AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS. Various of their undergraduate and postgraduate programs also have accreditation from professional, statutory, or regulatory bodies. The University of Bradford has been ranked 701-750 in QS World University Rankings 2022 and has also been ranked 601-800 in THE World University Rankings 2022.

Infrastructure, Campuses, and Courses

The University of Bradford has two campuses which are situated at Emm Lane and Richmond Road. Located in the Bradford region of West Yorkshire, the University provides high-quality education to more than 8,500 undergraduate and over 3,000 postgraduate students. The University of Bradford has 4 Faculties that were known as Schools once but now have been modified after establishing their sub-units in 2014. Four out of these five Faculties are set at the City campus. These Faculties are - Engineering & Informatics, Health Studies, Life Sciences and Management, Law, and Social Sciences and are further subdivided into Schools offering specialized programs. Further, in 1973, the University of Bradford became the first UK university to set up a Department of Peace Studies, which is currently the biggest University center in the world.

Accomplishments and Alumni 

The University of Bradford is the founding member of the World Technology Universities Network. It is also the first UK University of Sanctuary. The University has also been awarded Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) for Pharmacy Curriculum Team (2018). They have received Queen’s Anniversary Prize for their outstanding contribution in Dementia (2016), Athena Swan Bronze Award for tackling women's inequality in Higher Education (2016), and is also a Triple Accredited institution by AACSB, AMBA, and EQUIS. The University of Bradford has an alumni network of over 145,000 alumni in more than 170 countries. The top notable Alumni are Tom Brown, Professor of Nucleic Acid Chemistry at Oxford University. He has published more than 350 research papers and patents and has won numerous awards, including the RSC Josef Loschmidt Prize. Another prominent name is Chris Caple, who is a Senior Professor at Durham University specializing in the preservation of artifacts. He has written two books on archaeology. John Hegley (English Performance Poet), Janet Finch (British Sociologist and Academic Administrator) and Sadegh Zibakalam (Iranian author) are also notable graduates of the University of Bradford. 

Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

The University of Bradford provides comprehensive development by offering students a great support network. The University has more than 10,000 student enrolments out of which about 8500 are undergraduates and 3000 are postgraduates with more than 1,400 staff members on its premises. Of the total student enrolments, more than 1500 students are international students. The female to male student ratio at the University is 57:43, making it fairly gender-balanced to study at the University.
