Also known as Politécnico do Porto (Porto Polytechnic), Polytechnic Institute of Porto was established in 1985 and is a higher learning institution situated in Portugal. It comprises of a varied range of Polytechnic schools located in Porto, Felgueiras, Matosinhos, Póvoa de Varzim, and Vila do Conde. With the aim of providing polytechnic studies in the country, it began with two schools in the field of Education and Music that were later integrated. Today, the institute has become the largest Polytechnic institute in Portugal and has sprouted in seven schools. The faculty comprises of over 1,000 teachers and has been termed as an association of Polytechnic schools. The Porto Campus is situated in Asperal and Downtown Porto. The university is equipped with several research centres and has a total of 24 research groups spread across its 8 schools. Further, the founders describe the establishment of the university as “a happy encounter between tradition and forefront”. It is spread across three campuses housing a wide range of departments such as Media, Arts, Management and Technology. The Porto campus has state-of-the-art facilities including museums, auditoriums, libraries, laboratories, theatres and concert cafes.
