Jackson State University is a public higher education institute located in the urban city of Jackson, Mississippi. It was founded in the year 1877 by the American Baptist Home Mission Society and acquired its current name only in 1974. Times Higher Education Rankings placed the university in the 601-800 bracket amongst all US universities. The university is home to a total student population of around 7,200 students, out of which undergraduate enrollment account for 5,300 students. The university offers options of 90 programs ranging from undergraduate studies to doctoral programs. Its academic offerings are fractionated into the specialised colleges/schools, namely, the College of Business, College of Education and Human Development, College of Liberal Arts, College of Science, Engineering and Technology and the School of Public Health. Its pan-Mississippi campuses includes the Madison campus, Holmes campus, Mississippi E-Center and the Downtown and Universities Center.
