One of the oldest public universities in the state, the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) was founded in 1937 as a polytechnic college and attained the university status in 1991. The university campus is spread across an area of 15,000 sq. km and comprises of a total of 20 buildings. The university is also home to Jockey Auditorium which is one of the famous auditoriums in Hong Kong and has the capacity to accommodate more than 1,000 students. Hong Kong Polytechnic University comprises of 8 faculties and schools and is the largest UGC-funded tertiary institution in the Hong Kong region. Further, PolyU offers over 220 bachelor’s, master’s and sub-degree courses and enrols an average of 32,000 students annually. Programs are offered in disciplines like Applied Science, Hotel & Tourism Management, Humanities, Social Science, Environment, Business, Design, Health, Construction and Engineering. Recently, Hong Kong Polytechnic University also established the Hong Kong Community College in 2001 which offers a wide range of associate degree and diploma programs in specialised fields. The university is home to over 27,000 students and has a faculty staff of more than 1,300 teachers and scholars from across the globe.
