Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST) is a public university which is research oriented university and focuses mainly on the fields of engineering and applied sciences. It was established by the Korean Government in the year 1993 to help the country’s advanced research demand and to help facilitate the development of higher education of science and engineering sector. The university opened for undergraduate studies since the year 2010. It adopted a new and innovative system which provided foundation science curriculum which was comprehensive and was structured to aid the research studies of different engineering and science fields, and made the Gwangju University the first university to do do. In cooperation with industry sectors, the GIST performs the leading role in research programs and development.
