History, Affiliations and Rankings
Coventry University has a long history as an educational institution. The history dates back to 1843 when Coventry College of Design was founded. Coventry College of Art, Lanchester College of Technology, and Rugby College of Engineering Technology merged in 1970. The name was changed to Coventry Polytechnic in 1987, and the University was established in 1992 under UK Government legislation, as detailed in the Instrument and Articles of Government. The university is affiliated with the Association of Commonwealth Universities, University Alliance, Universities UK and EUA. The Coventry Business school is accredited by the Chartered Institute of Marketing and has received EPAS accreditation for its Business Management programs. The Times Higher Education positioned the university at #601-800 in the World University Rankings. Coventry is the #201-250 in the Young University Rankings 2022 and #51-75 in the European Teaching Category. Coventry University London secured the ranking of #601-650 in QS World University Rankings.
