The Delhi Sultanate was an important part of Indian history that lasted from 1206 to 1526. It was a time when many Muslim rulers ruled over parts of northern India. Let’s look at each option to understand who the true founder of the Delhi Sultanate was.
Option A: Iltutmish
Iltutmish was a powerful ruler of the Delhi Sultanate, but he was not its founder. He was the son-in-law of Qutub-ud-din Aibak and became the Sultan after Aibak’s death. Iltutmish is known for strengthening the Sultanate and making Delhi the capital. He was a great administrator, but he did not start the Sultanate.
Option B: Balban
Balban came later in the Slave Dynasty, which was the first dynasty of the Delhi Sultanate. He was a strong and strict ruler who improved law and order in the empire. However, he did not found the Delhi Sultanate. He ruled in the 13th century, long after it was established.
Option C: Qutub-ud-din Aibak
Qutub-ud-din Aibak is the correct answer. He was a slave general of Mohammed Ghori. After Ghori’s death in 1206, Aibak declared himself the ruler and founded the Delhi Sultanate. He became the first Sultan of Delhi and laid the foundation for Muslim rule in India. He also started the construction of the famous Qutub Minar in Delhi.
Option D: Mohammed Ghori
Mohammed Ghori was a ruler from present-day Afghanistan. He defeated Prithviraj Chauhan in the Second Battle of Tarain in 1192 and started expanding his empire into India. However, he did not stay in India or rule from Delhi. Instead, he appointed his trusted general Qutub-ud-din Aibak to look after his territories in India.
From this analysis, we can clearly see that Qutub-ud-din Aibak was the founder of the Delhi Sultanate in 1206. While Mohammed Ghori helped open the way, it was Aibak who became the first Sultan and started the rule of the Delhi Sultanate.
