International students can change or switch their Designated Learning Institution (DLI) after landing in Canada on a study permit. This article will briefly explain how the candidates can change their DLI after landing in Canada.
When can International Students in Canada Change their DLI?
Students can change their DLI while their study visa application is in progress once it is approved OR after landing in Canada and getting their study permit at the airport. They can change their DLI prior to starting their classes for the intake they took admission in OR even after completing their first semester.
How to Change the DLI?
Once the candidates make a decision to change their post secondary institution they are required to inform IRCC. Check below the steps to change the DLI:
- They must secure an offer letter for the new course or college/university in Canada. This is the first step in making the changes.
- They must login to their GCKey account that they used to apply for a study visa in the first place. Most of the students apply through agents/consultants and do not have GCKey credentials.
- They must enter their current study permit application number and then click the ‘Search for my Application’ button
- They must enter their new DLI number, their new student ID number and their new start date as mentioned on the new acceptance letter that they secured in Step 1. Then click on the “Submit Transfer” button.
