On Monday, Boeing announced scholarships worth $950,000/INR 7.78cr for pilot training. 5 general aviation organizations will recieve the scholarships. Moreover, they have announced their support for Fly Compton, an LA-based NGO engaged in introducing minority youth to career opportunities in aerospace.
However, this is not the first time Boeing has launched scholarships. The company has awarded a $8.5 million fund for pilot training since 2019. The effort aims to launch pilot training programs for underrepresented populations across the United States.
Reasons for Granting Flight Training Scholarships
There are several reasons for launching flight training scholarships. According to Ziad Ojaki, the Boeing executive v-p of government relations, the demand for qualified and diverse pilots remains high at airlines worldwide.
Becoming a pilot can bring lifelong career opportunities for people.However, access to training remains a barrier. Moreover, Boeing has projected the requirement for 602,000 new pilots to meet global commercial demand over the next 20 years. Additionally, the company would reveal a more detailed outlook in the “ Pilot and Technician Outlook”.
Distribution of the Flight Training Scholarships
The organizations, namely Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association, Organization of Black Aerospace Professionals, Latina Pilots Association, Sisters of the Skies, and Women in Aviation International, will recieve $500,000 for 25 scholarships.
Similarly, Fly Compton will be funded with $450,000/INR 36,878,019.30. As per Chris Broom, Boeing Global Services v-p for commercial training solutions more women and individuals of diverse backgrounds entering the pilot profession due to the guidance and mentorship offered by the aviation industry for early career professionals.
