Q. Because university degrees can get jobs with higher salaries, university students should pay the full cost of their education. Do you agree or not?

Ans. It is believed that the financial burden of a university education should be paid by the students themselves, as the degree they earn often opens doors to jobs with higher salaries. I agree with this statement as it views education as an investment that yields substantial returns.

Firstly, a university degree is a prerequisite for high-paying jobs. In fields such as engineering, medicine, law and business, a degree not only imparts necessary skills and knowledge but also serves as a testament to candidates’ dedication and competence. For instance, a medical degree is important to start a career as a doctor, a profession that is known for its high earning potential. Secondly, when students pay for their education, they are more likely to value it. The financial commitment serves as a motivator, encouraging students to make the most of their educational opportunities. This can lead to better academic performance and consequently, better job prospects. Thirdly, when a student pays for their own education, it instils a sense of self-reliance in students. It can teach them valuable life lessons such as budgeting, saving, and financial planning. These skills can be beneficial in both their personal and professional lives.

Fourthly, paying for their education can prepare students to face the real world. It gives them a taste of financial responsibility that they would most like to see after graduation. It can be a valuable learning experience, preparing for future challenges. Lastly,  If students pay for their education, it can contribute to the economic sustainability of universities. This can lead to better facilities, resources, and services for students, enhancing the overall quality of education. However, it is important to ensure that the cost of education is not hindering its access to students. Financial aid in the form of scholarships, grants, and student loans should be readily available to students who can not afford to pay the full cost of university education.

In conclusion, while university education does come with a price tag, it is an investment that reaps benefits in the long run. Therefore, it is justifiable for students to finance their education considering the higher salaries they are likely to earn post-graduation. However, provisions for financial aid should be in place to ensure equal opportunities for all students.
