How Long Should I Study for the IMAT?
The time you need to dedicate to studying for the IMAT exam depends on the level of your knowledge and skills. Generally, those with a strong science background only need to dedicate 3-4 months of study time. Their focus must be on solving past papers, strengthening logical reasoning skills, and learning exam technique.
On the other hand, students who are weak in the core science subjects need to dedicate more time. You might have to dedicate 6 to 9 months to learning the subjects and practising. Start with polishing your foundational skills, and then take timed exams. It is always best to start as early as possible.

How to Start Preparing for IMAT?
To prepare for the IMAT exam, you need to understand the exam format and make your foundational knowledge strong. Biology and chemistry questions cover 50% of the exam. Hence, focus on that. You can use books like Oxford IB Biology/Chemistry and other medical notes to prepare. Moreover, sharpen your logical reasoning skills. You need to practise daily exercises for the same, and learn time management.
Once the core subjects are studied, you can focus on looking at the previous year’s papers. You can get the previous year’s papers online. Several IMAT preparation courses also provide preparation. Ensure that you are up to date with current affairs, including topics from history, philosophy, literature, and art.
Simulate real-life exam conditions and practise. Practice at least 10 practice papers before the real exam. Understand your strengths and weaknesses, and practise accordingly.

No. IMAT is not harder than the NEET exam. It is easier. While the NEET exam is more competitive, has a vast syllabus and requires intensive preparation, the IMAT exam is the opposite. There is less competition, and a less extensive syllabus (although similar to NEET), and the exam duration is short.
