Ans– The role of patriotism in global conflicts is a topic that is widely debated. On the one hand, those who believe that patriotism is the primary cause of wars suggest that nationalistic feelings can fuel hostility between countries. They argue that when people are taught to take pride in their country and defend it, they may support aggressive actions that lead to war. For instance, world wars were fought largely due to nationalistic beliefs, with each country believing in the superiority of its own culture and way of life. Patriotism can also exacerbate tensions between countries with different geopolitical interests, leading to violent conflicts.

On the other hand, some argue that patriotism serves as a safeguard against corrupt politicians who might start wars for their own benefit. By promoting national unity and accountability, patriotism can prevent less ethical politicians from taking control of a country and initiating conflicts. Additionally, cooperation between countries can be facilitated by patriotic pride, leading to peaceful resolutions of conflicts. Patriotism can also help to strengthen a country’s identity, creating a sense of peace and stability.

In my opinion, while extreme nationalistic sentiments can lead to conflict, they are not the primary cause of wars. Many wars are fought for reasons that have little to do with patriotism. However, patriotism can help to promote cooperation and peace between countries. It is important to recognize the role that patriotic pride can play in bringing people together and working towards a common goal while also maintaining accountability and preventing aggressive actions.

In conclusion, patriotism can contribute to global conflicts, but it is not the sole cause of wars. It can prevent unethical politicians from starting wars, promote cooperation between countries, and create a sense of unity and identity. Striking a balance between patriotic pride and accountability is crucial to resolving conflicts peacefully and preventing aggression.
