In a crucial move in the NEET UG 2024 dispute, the Supreme Court issued a notice to the National Testing Agency (NTA) in response to a petition seeking to cancel the NEET-UG 2024 exam due to the claimed paper leak.
The panel, which included Justices Vikram Nath and Ahasanuddin Amanullah, emphasised the need for clarity, saying, “Sanctity has been compromised, so we require answers.”

Alternate Solution Provided by Committee: In its first few meetings, the four-member committee led by the former UPSC chairman discussed offering all 1,563 candidates the option of retaking the test or accepting the “non-normalised score” that these students had achieved prior to the addition of grace marks, according to The Indian Express. It is also worth noting that the composition has not been published by the government.
The agency stated that a final decision, including the option of re-examination, will be made once the committee presents its report, which is expected within a week.
Supreme Court’s Notice to NTA
The Supreme Court issued a notice about the petition asking for the cancellation of the NEET-UG 2024 examination due to the reported paper leak and has requested a response from the NTA. The case has been scheduled for hearing on July 8, along with a similar plea.
The petitioners have received the Supreme Court’s order to cancel and reschedule the NEET UG exam. They also question the National Testing Agency’s decision on providing grace marks to around 1,600 students.
In a news conference last week, the NTA’s Director-General stated that the decision to provide grace marks was based on a committee’s proposal.

There is rising disappointment among students and parents with this year’s undergraduate medical admission examination. Some students received 718 and 719 marks, while others received 720 marks, allowing them to become top scorers because of the NTA’s decision to award them grace marks.
