AFCAT Cut-off Result vs AFCAT Merit List Cut-Off 2024
The terms “Cut Off for Result” and “AFCAT Merit List Cut Off” might seem confusing, but they serve different purposes in the AFCAT selection process.
Cut Off For Result (AFCAT Exam)
This refers to the minimum qualifying marks you need to score in the AFCAT written exam to be considered for the next selection round, which is the AFSB interview. It’s essentially a hurdle you need to cross to move forward in the process. There’s no separate cut-off for each section like Reasoning & Military Aptitude, Numerical Ability, and General Awareness. The IAF announces a single cut-off mark after the exam.
AFCAT Merit List Cut-Off (Final Selection)
This final AFCAT merit list ranks candidates based on their combined scores from the AFCAT exam, the AFSB interview, and the final medical examination. The higher your combined score, the better your position on the AFCAT merit list. There’s no single cut-off mark here. The IAF selects candidates up to a certain number of positions (depending on vacancies) based on their rank in the merit list.
AFCAT Cut-off 2024
The AFCAT Cut-off for 2024 depends on whether you’re referring to AFCAT 1 or AFCAT 2 exam. Here’s the update as of today.
- AFCAT 1 2024 Cut-off: The cut-off for AFCAT 1 likely conducted in February has already been released. The official cut-off is 137.
- AFCAT 2 2024 Cut-off: There isn’t any official announcement yet regarding the AFCAT 2 2024 exam date.
What After AFCAT Merit List?
After the AFCAT merit list 2024 is published, the selection process for the Indian Air Force (IAF) unfolds in a few more stages.
- Academy Allotment: Based on your rank in the merit list, your preferences for branches such as Flying, Technical, and Ground Duty, and the availability of vacancies, the IAF will allot you an academy.
- Medical Examination: Candidates who make it to the final merit list will be called for a thorough medical examination at designated facilities like the Air Force Central Medical Establishment abbreviated as AFCME or the Institute of Aviation Medicine abbreviated as IAM. This ensures you meet the stringent medical standards required for IAF service.
- Final Selection: Only candidates who are medically fit and whose merit rank corresponds to available vacancies will receive a final selection letter. This letter confirms your induction into the IAF and specifies the training academy you’ll be reporting to.
- Training: Upon receiving the selection letter, you’ll undergo pre-commissioning training at the Air Force Academy abbreviated as AFA in Dundigal, Hyderabad. The duration and curriculum depend on your chosen branch of training.
- For Flying and Technical Branches: 74 weeks
- For Non-technical branches: 52 Weeks
This training is rigorous and prepares you for a rewarding career as an officer in the Indian Air Force.

FAQs
According to students who attended the AFCAT online test, the questions were moderately hard. The expected cut-off score for AFCAT 1 in 2024 will be between 154 and 157 points.
Suppose you want to be eligible for the Education Branch of the AFCAT in 2024. In that case, you must have passed your 10+2 and Post-graduate with at least 50% marks in any subject, including Integrated courses offering PG (Single degree without permission to exit and lateral entry). You must have at least 60% marks in your graduation in any subject.
AFSB chooses approximately 10,000 applicants for the test based on how well they perform on the online test. The final decision is made based on the performance of the candidate on the AFCAT and the AFSB interview. Candidates must get 140 to 190 out of 300 points on the AFCAT to pass. A good score would be this.
At least 140 to 160 out of 300 points is what students should get on the AFCAT test to pass.
