who is Shivaji Maharaj's son

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is known as one of the greatest kings in Indian history. He founded the Maratha Empire in the 17th century and became famous for his smart military strategies, fair rule, and strong vision for a free and self-reliant kingdom. His legacy continues to influence Indian politics, culture, and society even today. But his story doesn’t end with him. After Shivaji’s death in 1680, his empire needed someone to carry forward his dream and protect it from powerful enemies like the Mughals. This responsibility was taken up by his son, who showed great courage and leadership during one of the most difficult periods in Maratha history. In this blog, we’ll explore who Shivaji Maharaj’s son was, how he ruled the empire, and what legacy he left behind.

Son of Shivaji Maharaj

Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, the great Maratha king, had eight children from his different wives — two sons and six daughters. His elder son, Sambhaji Raje Bhosale, was born to his first wife Saibai. Sambhaji became the second Chhatrapati (king) after Shivaji. He was very brave, smart, and well-educated. He fought strongly against the Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, but was sadly caught, tortured, and killed in 1689. He is remembered as a hero and a martyr.

Shivaji’s younger son, Rajaram Raje Bhosale, was born to Soyarabai, another of his wives. After Sambhaji’s death, Rajaram became the third Chhatrapati. During his rule, the Mughals were attacking the Maratha kingdom heavily. Rajaram did not give up and continued the fight, even setting up a new capital at Gingee Fort in the south to keep the Maratha rule alive.

Shivaji Maharaj also had six daughters, and he married them into strong and noble families to build political support. His daughter Sakhubai, also from Saibai, was married into the Nimbalkar family of Phaltan. Ranubai was married into the Jadhav family of Jalna. Ambikabai married into the Mahadik family of Devgad. Deepabai was married into a Yadav family. The other two daughters, Rajkunvarbai and Kamlabai, are less known in history, but they were also part of Shivaji’s efforts to strengthen ties with powerful families.

Shivaji Maharaj used these marriages to build strong alliances and support for his growing Maratha Empire.
