The term “electronic dance music,” or simply “EDM,” refers to a variety of musical genres that first appeared in the middle of the 1980s. Electronic dance music (EDM) is a term used to describe a wide variety of musical genres, including house music, techno, drum and bass, dubstep, trance, and ambient music without a beat up to hardcore music with 200 beats per minute.
When seen as a whole, electronic dance music is distinguished by a number of distinctive characteristics. It is characterised by purposefully artificial sounds and timbres, typically created by inexpensive equipment from the early 1980s, such as the Roland 303 bass synthesiser and the 808 drum machine, or constructed from samples of earlier recordings. Although frequently used as a garnish rather than the main course, live instruments, and singing are frequently included. The music was composed primarily for the social activity of dancing all night, which is crucial. Therefore, most EDM genres place a big emphasis on rhythm, while ambient music, which is less concerned with keeping a beat, offers a sonic cushion for winding down at the end of the night. EDM songs are also developed more for DJs to blend with other songs of the same genre in dance clubs than for home listening, even though many of the tracks have been adopted by the pop audience.

Dance VS Electronic
Because not all electronic music is necessarily intended for clubs, it’s important to note that some individuals classify dance music and electronic music as independent genres.
Putting all of that aside, it is precisely these traits that classify EDM as one of the major umbrella genres, alongside rock, jazz, and hip-hop.
And as we’ll see, it doesn’t take much to create this type of music. At the very least, not as much as everyone claims.
But in order to learn the trade, which takes time, you must dedicate yourself to it. It takes more than just “pressing a button” to create music.
