Hey, I am a PCMB (Physics, Chemistry, Maths, Bio) student studying in India. I want to pursue electrical engineering after 12th grade (I am currently in 11th). I heard that electrical engineering requires some knowledge of computer science, and for studying in the USA and UK, I need to submit my test scores in all these subjects. However, my school doesn't offer PCMB with computer science; it only offers PCMB or PCMC and other courses. Can I do a diploma course in computer science after my 12th grade and submit my test scores along with this diploma course certificate for electrical engineering? Additionally, will having a diploma course certificate affect my chances of admission into top colleges in the US or UK? You might ask why I chose biology instead of computer...well I also want to do genetic engineering.. Can someone please help me out? #IndianStudents #ElectricalEngineering #DiplomaCourse #PCMB

Hey Vamshi
Thank you for reaching out to us!

You're right, some basic understanding of computer science is beneficial for Electrical Engineering, especially in areas like embedded systems and control engineering.
While specific test requirements vary, both the USA (SAT/ACT) and the UK (usually A-Levels) might not require a computer science test score for Electrical Engineering programs. However, check individual university requirements.
Diploma in Computer Science:
Optionality: While a diploma in Computer Science isn't mandatory, it can be a good way to gain foundational knowledge. It might even give you a slight edge in applications that showcase your initiative and interest in the field.
Impact on Admissions: Top colleges typically prioritize strong academic performance in high school and standardized test scores. A diploma might be a plus, but not a deciding factor. Focus on excelling in your PCMB subjects.
Genetic Engineering Option: If you're still interested in Genetic Engineering, consider universities offering combined programs (e.g., Electrical Engineering and Biotechnology) or double majors. This allows you to explore both fields.

Hope this helps!
