History, Affiliations and Rankings

Wright State University is a national public university in Dayton, Ohio with more than 15,000 students. It started out as a branch campus of Miami University and Ohio State University in 1964 and In the year 1967, Wright State University became an independent institution and was named to honour aviation pioneers Orville and Wilbur Wright, who invented the world's first successful airplane in their Dayton bicycle shop. Wright State University celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2017, creating a website to highlight milestones and events throughout the university's history. Wright State University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission (HLC). As part of maintaining accreditation, Wright State’s programs and processes are periodically reviewed to ensure institutional quality and integrity. Wright State University is academically affiliated with Space Grant and its sports team competes at NCAA Division I - Horizon League. 

Infrastructure, Campuses and Courses

The university is made up of eight colleges, three schools, and a branch campus in Celina, Ohio. The university also operates a branch campus, Wright State University–Lake Campus, on the shores of Grand Lake St. Mary's in Celina, Ohio. Wright State University takes pride in its beautiful 557-acre campus, which includes lush forests and a biology preserve. The university’s state-of-the-art facilities include 71 academic and academic support buildings, 33 student residential buildings, and a world-class entertainment and athletics venue. Underground tunnels connect 20 of 22 buildings in the academic section of campus, shielding students and employees from any adverse weather and adding to the university’s national reputation for accessibility for those with disabilities.

Accomplishments and Alumni 

Wright State University is committed to achieving an intellectual, cultural, and social environment on campus in which all are free to make their contribution. Wright State University currently hosts five North-American Interfraternity Conference fraternities, one Local Fraternity, five National Panhellenic Conference sororities, and eight of the nine members of the National Pan-Hellenic Council fraternities and sororities. Wright State has been regularly recognized as a welcoming campus for veterans and military personnel. In 2014, Wright State opened the Veteran and Military Center, a 4,500-square-foot area designed to provide a welcoming space and support services on campus for veteran and military students. And the university created a special $100,000 scholarship fund designed to help members of the Ohio National Guard attend graduate school in what is believed to be the first program of its kind in the state. Student Diversity and Visiting Companies

7.5% of the students that were enrolled in 2021 were international students. The University also provides Gender Inclusive Housing i.e. live in a residence hall or apartment regardless of your gender identity, gender expression, or of your roommates. Apart from these, the Office of Disability Services(ODS) recognizes disability as an aspect of diversity that is integral to society and to their campus community and accessibility is an essential feature of the Wright State campus.
