The University of North Texas was established more than 130 years ago in 1890 with the completion of the first building on the campus. The First Library was opened in 1913 when the enrollment number broke 1,000. The University of North Texas has been accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. It has been academically affiliated with the Universities Research Association and the Oak Ridge Associated universities. Athletically, the University of North Texas has been affiliated with NCAA Division I - FBS - C - USA.
