GRE Fees: GRE (Graduate Record Examinations) is a standardised test that is held every year for students who wish to pursue their higher education from abroad. The GRE fee for 2026 in India is ₹22,550, while the GRE subject test costs ₹14,500. Apart from the basic GRE fee, there are additional charges for various services like rescheduling, late registration, and score reporting. Test takers should also account for applicable taxes such as GST (Goods and Services Tax), which might increase the overall exam expense.

GRE Exam Fees in India

As discussed above, the GRE exam is one of the most popular exams which is taken by students wanting to go abroad for studies. If you are one of those students then you must be aware of the entire fee structure of this examination. But before that, did you know that the GRE exam is divided into two types of tests: the GRE General test and the GRE Subject test. Take a look at the table below which enlists the fees. 

GRE Fees Payment Methods

As per the conducting body, ETS, the following are the payment methods that are acceptable when filling out the fee forms for the GRE.

• Credit/Debit Card (American Express®, Diners Club International®, Discover®, JCB®, MasterCard®, Rupay™ Global, UnionPay®, and Visa®).
• Money Order/Certified Check/Voucher
• PayPal®
• E-Check Service (drawn against U.S. bank accounts only)
• Payments can also be made by personal paper checks. Make payable to ETS-GRE (drawn against U.S. bank accounts only), if paying by check. 

GRE Fee Reduction Program

The GRE Fee reduction program has been created to provide a substantial discount on the test fee to the following people:

• Individuals who are unemployed and receiving unemployment compensation from outside.
• Iwho who show financial need
• National programs that work with underrepresented groups, first-generation college students and students with financial need

GRE Retake Fees

Even with proper preparation, there is always a chance for the candidate to not perform well and might feel the need for a retake. For this, the GREretake option is available which is at a cost of $50 (INR 4,175). Note that this fee is in addition to the GRE exam fee.

GRE Worldwide Exam Fees

As you have been informed earlier, the GRE is a popular exam which means it is conducted all over the world. However, students registering for this exam from outside India will have to pay a different fee at the time of registering themselves for the same. GRE Reschedule Fees

All those candidates who want to reschedule their GRE exam are required to do so not later than four days before the test date or else the GRE exam fee will be forfeited. To reschedule the GRE exam, candidates will be required to pay a fee of INR 5,000. If students want to change 

Other than this, if students wish to change the subject then they will be charged INR 5,000 for changing from the GRE General test to the GRE Subject Test. All candidates wanting to additional changes in their GRE exam will have to pay extra fees. Here are the fees that candidates will have to follow if they have any special requests. 

GRE Exam Cancellation Fees

As has been mentioned above, all those candidates who want to cancel their GRE exam must do so no later than four days before their test date. After which, they will receive a refund equivalent to half of the GRE test fee. Keep in mind, there will be no cash refunds and the refund will be made in US dollars and will be credited back to the original bank account.
