The US embassy in India has put into effect changes to the visa application process for the Indian students. The changes in visa process began on Monday (November 27th). The US embassy in India has shared Information on X (formerly Twitter).
In Indian cities all these changes apply. Students who are searching to study in the US under the F, M, and J visa programmes are suggested to take note of these important changes.
From November 28 2023, the US embassy stated that all F, M, and J student visa candidates must use their self passport information while creating a profile and scheduling visa appointments. This measure targets to stop fraud and misuse of the appointment system.
This Is What US Embassy Said
According to the US embassy in India “Applicants who have created a profile or booked an appointment using an incorrect passport number will not be accepted at the Visa Application Centers (VAC). Their appointments will be abandoned, and the visa fee will be lost,”.
For F or M visas all applicants must enroll in a school/program certified by the Student and Exchange Visitor Program (SEVP). Those students who are applying for a J visa must need a sponsorship from an organization approved by the US State Department.
Furthermore, the US embassy suggested students who have already created a profile or booked an appointment with an inaccurate passport number to either create a new profile with correct passport information or update the current profile.
This Visa Process May Require a Payment
Nonetheless, the above process may need payment of a new visa fee receipt, if the previous one was linked to the profile with inaccurate passport details. If a passport is a lost or stolen old passport, applicants must give a photocopy or other proof of the old passport number for a US visa appointment at the VAC for admission.
