5 Options for PGWP Holders to Remain in Canada after their Permit Expires

Check below five options for PGWP holders to remain in Canada after their post-study work visa expires:

  • Provincial Nominee Programs – Many PNPs are offered to international students in Canada who wish to settle in their province. Canada has continued to hold express entry draws for PNP recipients throughout the pandemic.
  • Atlantic Immigration Program (AIP) – The Atlantic Immigration Program helps certain recent graduates from an Atlantic post-secondary institute become permanent residents. This program allows PGWP holders to remain in Canada before the permit expires.
  • Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP) – Candidates who have graduated from a publicly funded post-secondary institution in one of eleven select rural communities across Canada are eligible to apply under the Rural and Northern Immigration Pilot (RNIP). 
  • Work Permit – Work permits allow candidates to work while waiting to finalize their permanent residency application.
  • Enroll in a New Post-Secondary Program – Candidates enrolled in a new post-secondary program in Canada are allowed to remain in Canada and work up to 20 hours per week.
